The 9:00 a.m. Praise Celebration music is led by Bill and Marg Bauza.
Bill and Marg met in high school where they sang in the a Capella choir. Later, they attended UCC church where they started a praise team and Marg directed the Junior Choir with Bill as accompanist. In 1991 they went to a Southern Baptist church in Getzville where Bill played the organ and Marg directed the choir.
In 1995 they moved to Cleveland Dr. Presbyterian in Cheektowaga where they sang in the choir and with the praise team. Marg filled in for the choir director; Bill was the substitute organist and keyboard player until in 2004 when he was blessed with these positions. For the past six years they have volunteered at the City Mission providing music at lunchtime as well as Thanksgiving dinners and Christmas parties.
Here at Christ Church Bill and Marg lead the praise team that currently consists of Pastor B.J. Norrix, Sandy Cumming, Lynn Ramsey, Beth Sweet, and Jordan Maliken. The team rehearses on Monday nights from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the church. The team works learning newer, contemporary praise songs and reviewing other material. New members of any age are always welcome along with any instrumentals.
The 11 a.m. Traditional Style Celebration is led by the church Director of Music, Elizabeth Holt Curtis.
Elizabeth graduated with a B.A. in music from Douglass College at Rutgers University, and she also holds a Masters in music from University of Wisconsin. Elizabeth’s first church position was Director of Music at University of Wisconsin Catholic Center. Later, she did post graduate study in Vienna, Austria and sang with a regional touring opera company in Germany.
Elizabeth then returned to the U.S. freelancing in New York City as a singer. In Buffalo, she was the soprano section leader/soloist with the Unitarian/Universalist Church of Buffalo. She as also had many other singing engagements with local symphonies and the Young Audiences Opera Program. She has taught voice lessons at the University of Buffalo, Buff State, and Daemen College. Elizabeth has also been teaching private piano lessons for the past two decades; she specializes in the Suzuki approach.
Here at Christ Church Elizabeth has been the Directory of Music since September of 1994; she is the organist and choir director. The Choir rehearses Wednesday nights at 7:30 p.m. here at the church. The Choir is always looking for new faces and voices.
